A New England commercial fisherman turned artist, Herbert M. Crooks began oil painting seriously in 1989, focusing his talents on East Coast landscapes, still-lifes, and marine paintings. Herbert has studied under noted artists Richard Gibney of Rockport, Massachusetts, Robert Scott Jackson, and Richard Burke Jones of Newburyport, Massachusetts.Although his numerous collections are privately held, his work may be viewed at the Newburyport City Hall and the Newburyport Art Association where he is a member.
Herbert was born and resides in Newburyport MA. He has also been a student of various martial arts during his lifetime including running his own judo studio. He is currently studying Tai Chi Chuan and is finding inspiration for his paintings of asian themes from this.
